FBC London has collaborated with contemporary artist Marco Tullio Siviglia in celebration of Grosvenor’s sponsorship of the V&A’s highly anticipated exhibition, Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up. In honor of Frida Kahlo, one of the most recognised and significant female artists of the 20th century, Marco has created three exclusive and bespoke vessels names ‘Frida Opuntia’.
Tullio Siviglia draws from the primeval forces of the mineral, botanical and animal worlds working with clay, glass and metal oxides. With reference to the roots, cacti, seeds and fruits, Tullio Siviglia has recreated an imaginary garden. Working with 2 different types of clay, interlacing glass and mineral inclusions to convey a sense of growth, strength yet such fragility – crossing the boundaries. His style relays this well and the clay gives structure and strength to the object, the design. On a finer level of detail, the texture and frayed edges gives beauty and fragility to the shape.
